Mars ditches iconic chocolate flavour – and outraged foodies say it’s ‘criminal’
Things seem to be changing a lot in the confectionary world lately, and another chocolate bar has faced the axe. Mars confirmed it will cease making one of its iconic chocolate bars, and foodies have been left raging.
The confectioner binned off its dark chocolate Bounty bars, and it's left many people disappointed. Though not everyone enjoys a dark choccie fix, the announcement caused a lot of hurt.
Even Piers Morgan has been hit hard by the not so sweet news. He wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter: "I've just been told my favourite dark chocolate red wrapper Bounty bars have been discontinued, and this is the last one left in my dressing room stockpile. I'm outraged. This will cause immeasurable harm to my mental health. Please reconsider."

Since he broke the news to his fans many were quick to reply, and it was clear they echoed his sadness. Sarah Vine said: "Ah, but have you discovered dark chocolate Maltesers?"
Angry People in Local Newspapers added: "I don’t see eye-to-eye with everything you say Piers, but this is an outrage. An absolute outrage." John Clark also chirped in: "Discontinuing Bounty bars from Celebration boxes would bring me immeasurable joy."
Meanwhile, SMB wrote: "I've already contacted my therapist and started a support group for fellow Bounty enthusiasts. Let's hope @MarsGlobal listens to our plea for the sake of our sanity and chocolate-loving hearts! #SaveTheBounty."
Some even claimed the dark chocolate version beats the milk chocolate flavour "hands down". The move was dubbed "criminal" by fans who love their chocolate with a slightly more bitter taste.
One even said the announcement is "truly a chocoholic's nightmare", and called chocolate lovers to come together and fight the decision. Meanwhile, another was slightly more diplomatic, adding: "I understand your disappointment. As someone who also appreciates a good Bounty bar, I empathise with your situation.
"But remember, change is the only constant in life. While the dark chocolate red wrapper Bounty may no longer be available, this could be a chance to discover a new favourite treat."
