BBC announcer horrified as he makes VERY rude error while introducing show | The Sun

A BBC voiceover announcer made a horrifying mistake while introducing the Sunday evening programming on BBC 2 Wales.

The announcer made a rude mistake when announcing the Rugby highlights show Scrum V, accidentally calling it Scum V.

The mistake happened when he was introducing the evening’s programming, explaining that Scrum V would be on at 6pm after the new series Nightshifters, a new documentary series following night shift workers in Wales.

The live voiceover began: “We have all the latest from this week’s action, including the Ospreys and Scarlets. Scum V is here…”

Realising his mistake, the announcer quickly amended his statement to the correct name of the rugby show.

“Scrum V is here in half an hour,” he said, hiding his horror and embarrassment behind a laugh.

The announcer swiftly moved on from his mistake, confirming the schedule for BBC Two yesterday. “That’s right after we clock on with the night owls on BBC Two Wales,” he concluded.

Scrum V is a Welsh rugby highlights programme which airs weekly on Sunday evenings.

Last night’s show was hosted by Laura Jenkins alongside former players Sean Holley and James Hook.

The show did indeed cover yesterday’s showdown between the Ospreys and the Scarlets. The rugby union teams battled it out in a derby match at Swansea Stadium, but it was a landslide victory for the Ospreys, who beat their rivals 31-9.

The mistake was picked up by another voiceover presenter, Danny Cowan, who shared the sound clip on X, formerly Twitter, last night.

His comments reassured fans that mistakes can happen.

“Trust me when I say LIVE television can be a cruel mistress,” he said.

“Even a multi award-winning experienced professional can occasionally trip up. And in doing so rename a programme (SCRUM not SCUM) whilst laughing at himself live on air … Thank goodness it wasn’t me … Ohh oppps!”

Remembering how mortifying it can be to make a mistake like that on live TV, BBC journalist David Harper commented: “Oh lord… the number of times I nearly did that in my BBC Wales days…”

“I once had a dramatic near miss with an ‘Escape to the Kent countryside,’” he admitted.

Meanwhile, viewers at home found the incident hilarious.

Offer advice for the announcer, one viewer said: “Always be the first to laugh at yourself, I say!”
