Minnie Driver on real reason she looks ‘devastated’ watching ex Matt Damon

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck appear on The One Show

The actress, 53, spoke out after an old video clip resurfaced on Instagram by the account Movie Shmood. Matt was seen alongside actor Ben Affleck at the ceremony scooping Best Original Screenplay. 

During the clip, Minnie looked upset when the camera caught a glimpse of her when the pair were making their acceptance speech thanking a string of people including the late Robin Williams.

The actress agreed in the comments and offered some context to the video.

She said: “Matt had ended our relationship a few weeks before this, and was at the Oscars with his new gf… I was devastated”.

“Wish I could have celebrated more as it was an amazing moment for all of us, and for this wonderful film!”(sic)

Ben said as he delivered the speech: “I just said to Matt, losing would suck but winning would be scary,”

He continued: “And it is really, really, really scary”.

Matt and Ben, 51, thanked a dozen people including their co-stars, agents, friends and family.

Ben also decided to give Minnie a shout-out during the speech.

By the time of the Oscars, Matt had already moved on with a new girlfriend who attended the ceremony with him.

Although she was not named during the speech by Matt.

Matt started dating actress Winona Ryder shortly after he split with Minnie and it is known that she did attend the 1998 Oscars – but it was not reported that they were an item back then.

 

Matt made an appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show and confirmed he was back on the market. 

He said: “Well, I’m single. I was with Minnie for a while, but we’re not really romantically involved anymore, we’re just really good friends. 

Before adding: “I love her dearly.”
