Police investigating suspicious blaze at another Docklands restaurant

Another Docklands restaurant has gone up in flames, just weeks after a neighbouring venue was destroyed in a suspected firebombing attack.

Emergency services were called to Almina, a Lebanese restaurant on Glenti Place, following reports of suspicious activity about 2.50am on Friday.

“Police have been told three offenders were seen smashing the window of the restaurant before a suspected accelerant was used to set it alight,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“The trio were seen running from the scene before leaving in a vehicle.”

A crime scene has been established around the restaurant, and an arson chemist is expected to investigate the scene later on Friday morning.

Last month, New Quay restaurant Karizma was destroyed in an arson attack in the early hours of November 20, the second time the venue had been targeted in three days.

Detectives from Taskforce Lunar – a dedicated unit set up to tackle violence over illicit tobacco – released CCTV this week of the Karizma fire in a bid to identify two men dressed in black seen setting the Docklands restaurant alight.
