Coronation Street’s Peter Barlow exit ‘sealed’ as character ‘killed off’

Coronation Street: Peter Barlow punches his surgeon

It looks as though Coronation Street’s Peter Barlow (played by Chris Gascoyne) could be meeting a deadly end in the ITV soap.

Although he became a permanent fixture on the show in 2016, the husband to Underworld boss Carla Connor (Alison King) made his debut back in 2000.

In July this year, it was announced the actor would be leaving the cobbles once again with his exit imminent.

The storyline surrounding his departure is being kept under wraps, however, it may be linked to the looming downfall of serial killer Stephen Reid (Todd Boyce).

According to an artificial intelligence tool called Bard, they predict that Peter could be killed off in the soap.

When Daily Star questioned the AI tool, it said: “It is possible that Peter Barlow could be killed off in Coronation Street following Chris Gascoyne’s departure.

“This is the most dramatic option, but it’s not impossible.

“Peter has already survived a number of close calls, but he’s also been through a lot in his life.

“It’s possible that he could finally succumb to one of his many health problems, or that he could be killed in an accident.”

The AI tool added that killing a character off is a common way to write an actor out of soap as it creates a dramatic and emotional end to their storyline.

It looks as though viewers believe Peter could find himself being sent to prison as they believe killer Stephen Reid will frame him for his murders.

@RyanTheSoapking commented: “I wonder if Stephen will frame Peter for Leo/ Rufus’s murder? Leading to Peter going to prison for the second time.”

@floweroflondon added: “Peter is totally going to be set up by Stephen, isn’t he?”

@perfectmanda feared Peter could meet a deadly end as they wrote: “Swear to god if Peter gets killed off by Stephen just no!!!!”

Although it’s not yet known when Chris will be leaving the show, he’s already got another job lined up.

Heading to St. Albans, the soap star will be playing Captain Hook in The All New Adventures of Peter Pan as the theatre released a statement.
