Ben Shephard on his family Christmas plans before joining This Morning – ‘I’m on drinks and tidying!’
Good Morning Britain 's Ben Shephard may be rumoured to be taking over This Morning alongside Cat Deeley next year, but he's got a much bigger job to take care of first – Christmas drinks!
The presenter spoke to OK! in an exclusive interview about his upcoming Christmas plans, with the 49-year-old spending his the festive season at home in South-West London for the first time in five years.
"My son Sam worked it out – it's the first time we're at home since about 2018 because we've gone to [wife] Annie's family or my family or Cornwall," he said.
"My brother lives in Dubai, so we've been out to Dubai for a Christmas as well. So it's the first time we're going to be home."
Ben, who shares sons Sam, 18, and Jack, 15, with wife Annie, adds that he already knows he'll be on clearing up duty this year.
"My role is clearing up – tidying and drinks! There's nothing more important than drinks on Christmas, and I will be chief mixologist and sommelier, [clearing up] wrapping paper and all that sort of stuff," he said.
"Christmas is always a big thing for our family. Much like Kate, there's tons of us and tons of cousins. It'll be a big family Christmas at home so it should be fun."
Meanwhile, interior designer Annie – who Ben married in 2004 – is taking over the cooking for Christmas.
"Anne is very content with that," Ben says. "As long as I stay out of the kitchen and I'm very happy doing all the tidying up and all the cleaning up and all that sort of stuff as well, it's a good relationship.
"Because she doesn't like doing the tidying up. And I'm not really particularly good at the cooking," he laughed.
Ben – who rose to fame as a face on GMTV, Tipping Point and Ninja Warrior UK – will reportedly be joining This Morning as a permanent presenter alongside SMTV Live's Cat Deeley after guest-hosting with Holly Willoughby this autumn.
According to The Daily Mirror, Ben and Cat could earn £550,000 each per year as This Morning looks to replace Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, who left the show earlier this year.
Good Morning Britain’s 1 Million Minutes campaign runs throughout December, asking viewers to pledge their time to help fight loneliness.
