BBC Strictly fans spot sports star in audience – and want him on show next year
Strictly Come Dancing fans were pleasantly surprised when tuning into this weekend's show, with many spotting Olympic diver Tom Daley in the studio audience.
The 29-year-old athlete was seen cheering on pal Annabel Croft after the tennis star performed a Samba with professional partner Johannes Radebe.
Taking to social media, fans began wondering why the Olympian, who was dressed in a black tank top, had stopped by Strictly.
"Why is Tom Daley in the audience with a singlet on?" one viewer wrote on X, while another said: "Awww, nice to see Tom Daley in the audience."
Meanwhile, others said that the diver should join next year's Strictly line-up. "Tom Daley watching Strictly. He would be amazing paired with Johannes," one fan wrote.
Tom is married to Oscar-winning screenwriter Dustin Black, who was cleared of assault charges this week after when his case was dismissed mid-trial at Westminster Magistrates' Court.
The 49-year-old, who shares two sons with husband Tom, was accused of assaulting reality TV star Teddy Edwardes at Freedom Bar in London's Soho – however, the judge held that there was insufficient and inconsistent evidence to prove the claim.
The couple welcomed their second son Phoenix Rose via surrogate in April, posting a photo of themselves and five-year-old Robert with the new baby.
"Our family has grown in the last week, we welcomed Phoenix to the world on 28/03/23 and he's just perfect," Tom wrote on Instagram. "Robbie is loving being a BIG BRO!"
Tonight's Strictly Come Dancing Results Show saw Krishnan Guru-Murthy become the seventh contestant to leave the competition, losing in the dance-off against broadcaster Angela Rippon.
While judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke voted to save Angela, head judge Shirley Ballas revealed that she would have saved Krishnan, explaining that he was more "grounded" on his feet.
Speaking about his time in the competition, Krishnan said that it had been the "most incredible experience" and that his professional partner Lauren Oakley had made the show "special" for him.
"She is most incredible teacher, partner, friend. She is the real Strictly star and I am so delighted I am the first partnership you have had. She is going to go a long way and I am very proud of her."
Krishnan later took to Instagram to tell fans that he was "hs|eartbroken" and that "re-entry to normal life" won't be "easy" after Strictly.
