Strictly’s Angela Scanlon admits she was ‘furious’ and struggled with ‘imposter syndrome’ after a BBC producer made a vile sexist remark

Angela Scanlon has revealed she struggled with ‘imposter syndrome’ after sexist comments were allegedly made to her by a BBC producer.

The Your Home Made Perfect presenter, 39, who is currently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing, said she was left ‘furious’ by the troubling remarks.

Speaking on the Fashion as a Force for Good podcast, the former One Show host said that it occurred back in 2016 during her time hosting Robot Wars alongside Dara O’Briain.

Angela said she was left ‘furious’ that the comments centred on what she would be wearing for the prime time show. 

She shared how presenting the programme had marked a significant career milestone for her, but admitted to feeling a sense of ‘imposter syndrome.’

Talking about her time there, Angela claimed that a BBC producer had labeled her as the ‘glamour’ figure, despite her explicit emphasis on her ‘strengths and ability.’

She said: ‘I think in his mind I was you know, ”the glamour”, which was just never a role that I felt was me…like I understood what that was, but it was just not in my mind. I was not that person.’

She went onto claim that a friend had called her up telling her to be careful, adding: ‘A friend of mine called me…he said: ‘Well I interviewed for the job and this person had said, ‘So the show is Dara O’Briain and this chick Angela Scanlon – she’s the t**s and the teeth’.

The TV presenter said she was left ‘absolutely furious’ at the comments.

She continued: ‘The next meeting I had with this person, there was a conversation less around the content – which in my mind was my job – and more around what are you thinking you’ll wear? I was like, ‘That’s not important’.

‘And they were like, ‘Yeah you know I just think we need a bit of glamour’.

‘I was absolutely defiant that that was not my gig, it felt so reductive and so presumptuous that I would arrive with my lippy on and my legs out to entertain the lads and that was my value. I was like absolutely not.’

Angela defiantly continued to present the show in boiler suits, to make sure no skin was on show.

The different versions of the fashion piece ended up being something like a uniform. 

When asked for a comment, the BBC told MailOnline: ‘We don’t have a comment on this’.

It comes after ITV bosses are discussing the possibility of Angela replacing Holly Willoughby on This Morning following her success on the dance show.

The Irish presenter has been raised with chiefs at the network as a potential to join the programme.

An ITV source said: ‘Angela’s name was raised and actually she would be a great replacement for Holly. She ticks all of the boxes, and has a wealth of experience.’
