Carol Vorderman ‘doesn’t care’ if she loses jobs for criticising government
Carol Vorderman claims Johnny Mercer’s wife ‘harassed’ her
TV and radio presenter Carol Vorderman has said it’s “fine” if she loses jobs for criticising the government on social media.
The 62-year-old has been involved in several spats on X, formerly known as Twitter, with Tory MPs.
But in an interview with The Times Magazine, she has revealed that nothing will stop her, and she has no intention of backing down from the fight.
When asked about how she feels about criticism from the Tories, Carol said: “It doesn’t bother me… I’ll tell you why. I’m knocking on 63. I’ve made my money. I’ve been through it all.
“What’s the worst that can happen? That I’ll lose some jobs? Fine by me. Bring it on. They can sling what they like at me.”

Carol has recently been in a spat with Conservative chairman Greg Hands, who last week called for her to apologise for posting “defamatory and damaging” tweets regarding his involvement in a lifestyle firm being awarded a £25.8 million PPE contract in 2020.
Carol then took to X posting: “I’ve been contacted by Greg Hands MP in response to my tweets about his involvement in the granting of a COVID-19 healthcare contract to Luxe Lifestyle in 2020.
“While the awarding of this contract was unfortunate, and there remain serious questions about the VIP Lane,
“I’m happy to accept Mr Hands’ assurance that his role in the process was simply to refer the approach to the JACT, and that there was no impropriety on his part.”
The tweets Greg Hands posted about have since been deleted.

Fans commented to support the former Countdown presenter, with one user writing: “Says a lot about your clout that he got in touch (presumably with legal advice) – more power to you!”
Whilst a second added: “This has all the sincerity of a hostage video. It’s almost as if your solicitor wrote it for you.”
And a third wrote: “Carol, you’ve obviously hit a nerve because Hands being my MP, he can’t give 2 hoots for his constituents who go to him to seek his help!”
Carol has been on UK television since 1982, appearing on Countdown which was the first program to be broadcast on Channel 4. She’s since gone on to appear on I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, Loose Women, Lorraine and is a regular on This Morning.
Speaking about the support she receives, she also told The Times: “Every day, people of all ages come up to me and shake my hand and say, ‘I bloody love what you do,’ ”
Tim Burgess, lead singer of The Charlatans, is also a huge fan, writing on X, “Carol Vorderman helping bring down the government wasn’t on my 2023 bingo card, but I’m very much here for it.”
Carol can also be found hosting a BBC Radio Wales show every Saturday morning.
