As Zac deletes Ellie Goulding sculpture post, did she break his heart?

EMILY PRESCOTT: As Zac Goldsmith deletes post of Ellie Goulding sculpture… Is this proof that the pop star broke the ex-Minister’s heart?

Zac Goldsmith was so proud of the bronze sculpture he was creating for close friend Ellie Goulding that he shared a snap of it on Instagram.

But it appears that her decision to cut ties has hit him hard, because shortly after Ellie told him she was rekindling her marriage to estranged husband Caspar Jopling, Zac deleted his post from social media.

Its disappearance has raised questions within the pair’s circles that the former Tory MP’s heart is somewhat broken at Ellie’s decision to no longer spend time together for the sake of her family.

Yet it seems, at least according to friends of the peer, that the decision to remove the post was to do with the media furore over his relationship with Ellie.

A pal of Zac tells me: ‘He deleted the post because he says the sculpture was being misinterpreted in the context of articles about his relationship with Ellie.’

Just ten days ago, Zac took to social media to share the sculpture, with the post reading: ‘What will eventually be a tree of life in bronze… but more work to do. I just do it in my spare time – subjects I love, mostly animal or human/animal love.’

The remarkable resemblance it bore to singer Ellie, 36, led many to assume that he intended to give it to her as a gift.

Of the post’s disappearance, another friend tells me: ‘Zac was so proud of that sculpture, then so soon after Ellie told him their friendship was over the post disappeared. Maybe it really did upset him.’

Zac, 48, and Ellie were said to have developed a strong friendship after meeting at a UN climate conference in 2021.

Seven months later they enjoyed lunch in Covent Garden, and last October, they were spotted at the exclusive 5 Hertford Street club.

More recently they were seen giggling near Zac’s home in West London, which he moved into following his separation from wife Alice.
