Maura Higgins launches acting career as she lands role in first movie

Love Island fans across the world were left baffled earlier this year when it was announced that 2019 contestant Chris Taylor had bagged a role in this year's global blockbuster hit, Barbie, alongside A-list stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling.

And in yet another unexpected plot twist, rumours are already swirling that ex-islander Maura Higgins has herself managed to land a major movie role of her own!

Love Island 2019 star – who also happens to be the ex-girlfriend of Hollywood newcomer Chris – is understood to have already started work in Belfast on a brand new movie titled, The Spin.

According to The Irish Sun, brunette bombshell Maura – who earlier this week denied allegations of a furious row with Faye Winter at the NTAs over a 'thrown shoe' – will play a character called Rose in the upcoming movie.

"It’s a British film which follows two friends travelling through Ireland looking for old music records," an insider is alleged to have told the publication. "The film is a comedy and Maura was the perfect fit for the role. She started work on The Spin over the weekend in Belfast and really impressed the producers."

They added that the Irish favourite – who just finished work on the American version of Love Island which she presented alongside Sarah Harding for the first time this summer – is said to have an innate ability to throw herself "into any project", according to the source, "and is always keen to learn".

They added: "The film could open a lot of new doors for Maura and it’s a very exciting time."

OK! approached Maura's representatives for comment.

Maura's reported latest project comes just days after speculation was rife as to whether she might be in the running to appear on the upcoming series of Love Island: All Stars.

After first being announced on ITV’s Good Morning Britain, the official Love Island Twitter account then shared a snap of the villa alongside the message: "The rumours are true! [yellow heart emoji] #LoveIsland: All Stars is coming soon…".

While she may have made a mark on the Love Island villa as a bombshell back in 2019 and while she may have secured a presenting role across the pond, Maura has said she "can’t see" herself taking part in the show again as a contestant.

"I can’t see myself ever doing that again, no… I don’t really want to go back in time, I want to look to the future," she previously toldGoss.ie.
