Man in his 20s dies after he ‘fell from a footbridge and was hit by a lorry’ on busy A40 in west London
- Police and paramedics were called to the scene at around 1am on Thursday
A man has died after falling from a bridge and being hit by a lorry on a busy London road in the early hours of this morning.
The A40 is closed heading into London causing lengthy tailbacks after the incident, which took place in Greenford, near Ealing.
The London Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at 12.59am this morning and treated a man at the roadside.
Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was confirmed to have died.
The man is believed to be in his 20s and his next of kin have been informed.
Police said the driver of the lorry stopped at the scene and is assisting police with their enquiries. He has not been arrested.

Road closures remain in place from Target Roundabout in Northolt to the Greenford Flyover.
A spokesperson for the Met Police said: ‘Police were called at 00:58hrs on Thursday, 30 November following a collision involving a lorry and a man on the A40 Western Avenue, at the Target Roundabout.
‘The man, aged in his 20s, is believed to have fallen from height from a bridge beforehand.
‘He was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.
‘The driver of the lorry stopped and is assisting police with their enquiries. He has not been arrested.
‘Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has dash cam footage that could help police, should call 101 or post @MetCC ref CAD 242/30 Nov.’
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson added: ‘We were called today (November 30) at 12:59am to reports of an incident on Western Avenue, Greenford.
‘We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an incident response officer, an ambulance crew, and a medic in a fast-response car. We treated a man at the scene, but sadly, he was later pronounced dead.’
