Horror as man in his mobility scooter attacked by ‘XL Bully’ dog as terrified onlooker tries to fight animal off before also being bitten
- Police were called to Hamnett Court, Warrington, in Cheshire on Tuesday
A man on a mobility scooter was attacked by an ‘XL Bully’ and a terrified onlooker tried to fight off the animal – before also being bitten.
Cheshire Police were called to Hamnett Court, Warrington, on Tuesday, following reports of a dog attack.
A man on his mobility scooter had been walking his dog when another animal – which he described as an XL Bully – approached them.
It’s claimed that the ‘XL Bully’ attacked his dog and bit the owner when he tried to intervene – and then attacked a good Samaritan who tried to help them.
A woman who claimed she was the owner of the alleged XL Bully then stepped in, put a lead on the dog and left.

American bullies are a relatively new breed, having originated in the 1980s. They are mixed breed bulldogs, typically American pitbull terriers crossed with American, English and Olde English bulldogs.
Though the Bully XL is the most common, the dogs can also be bred with mastiffs and other larger dogs to make them bigger, XXL or even XXXL.
Despite their relative popularity in the UK, they are not officially registered as a breed by the UK Kennel Club,
PC Victoria Taylor said: ‘I understand this may cause concern in the community and we are working hard to try and locate the dog and its owner.
‘Witnesses also said there were some school children filming the incident.’

Despite the government announcing plans to ban the breed in September, there have been a spate of attacks involving the dangerous dogs in recent weeks.
At the beginning of October, Ian Langley, 54, was set upon by an enormous XL Bully dog which grabbed him by the neck as he bent down to pick up his Patterdale terrier pup.
The attack left Mr Langley needing CPR for around 15 minutes as emergency services fought to staunch heavy bleeding from his wounds. However he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
Mr Langley was the eighth person to be killed by XL Bullies this year.
