Strictly’s Jody Cundy admits to not starting training weeks before show debut
Jody Cundy talks about his upcoming appearance on Strictly
Paralympian Jody Cundy who is one of the contestants on this year’s Strictly Come Dancing has admitted that he hasn’t actually started his dance training yet despite the opening show being just weeks away.
The pre-recorded launch show is expected to air on Saturday, September 16, with the live shows beginning a week later. But Jody has yet to get near a dancefloor.
“I’ve done my photoshoot and I’ve done a few behind-the-scenes preview stuff, but we’ve not started dancing yet.
“So yeah, that’s another couple of weeks [until we do],” the 44-year-old revealed on BBC Breakfast.
However, it appears that he will need all the training he can get as he admitted that his background in dance involves “shuffling away from the dancefloor at any given opportunity”.

“It is the one opportunity to kind of get out there and change that,” he confessed.
“It should be a lot of fun. That’s the main bit. I want to go out there with a big smile on my face and enjoy every moment of it.
“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime chance so jump both feet in and see where we go,” he said.
He also admitted he has a very sweet reason for wanting to learn to trip the light fantastic as he wants to be able to dance with his children.
“I’m literally the last one on [to] the dancefloor. But the kids dance around in the kitchen with my fiancé and stuff, and I just look at it and say ‘I wish I could get up and join them’.”

Asked how his coaches reacted when he told them he was doing Strictly, he admitted that they laughed.
“They smiled and laughed, and they were like, ‘Are you sure’, and I was like, ‘Yeah I’m sure’. They’re really excited by the whole process,” he revealed.
“It’s created quite a nice buzz within the cycling [community] and behind the scenes.
“My friends and family are all up for it. I’m up for it. So, we’ll see how it goes.”
