BBC Strictly’s Amy Dowden returns to screens with Dragons’ Den star pal Sara Davies

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden will return to TV screens tonight (7 November), as she joins pal and Dragons’ Den star Sara Davies on Celebrity Antiques Road Trip.

The pair first met when Sara appeared as a contestant on Strictly in 2021, and will go head-to-head alongside experts Natasha Raskin Sharp and Steven Moore to see who can uncover the most interesting antiques and make the most money at auction.

In a clip released before the show airs tonight, Dragons’ Den entrepreneur Sara has said she made it her “mission” to have Amy as a friend when she appeared on Strictly.

Sara says: “Did you know I actually made it my mission to make you my friend?”

Caerphilly-born dancer, 33, Amy responded saying: “We just hit it off though, didn’t we? We supported each other and I loved seeing you and having our debrief on a Friday in the studio.”

Sara said: “No, no, no, it wasn’t just … I was making a beeline! I decided that the only person I was really hoping to make friends with that I hadn’t was Amy Dowden.”

The 39-year-old businesswoman had been partnered with Slovenian dancer Aljaz Skorjanec when she was eliminated during the 19th series of BBC One show Strictly.

During Celebrity Antiques Road Trip, Sara and Amy will begin their journey in Jesmond, Newcastle upon Tyne, before travelling through antique shops in Whitley Bay, Langley Moor and Hartlepool.

Harrogate will be the setting for their auction finale and they will see cranberry finger bowls, boudoir chairs, Georgian shoe buckles, and a set of bronze dragon heads along the way.

Antiques experts Natasha Raskin Sharp and Steven Moore will be on hand to help them as the celebrities drive in a 1985 Ford Cortina.

Professional dancer Amy has not been partnered with a celebrity on the latest Strictly as she undergoes treatment for breast cancer.

She has been detailing her brave cancer battle on social media, including having a mastectomy and chemotherapy, as she tries to raise awareness about the condition.

Amy has said undergoing treatment for breast cancer has resulted in the “toughest year” of her life when she appeared on the Stand Up To Cancer live show at the Francis Crick Institute to celebrate a decade of the appeal for Cancer Research UK.

Sporting a shaved head with a blue blazer and matching trousers, Amy told presenter Davina McCall she has her last chemotherapy session this week and is looking forward to being able to “ring that chemo bell”.

“It has been the toughest year of my life but I’m just really hoping with the surgery that I’ve already had and the chemo that I’ve done enough,” she said.

Celebrity Antiques Road Trip airs on Tuesday at 7pm on BBC Two and BBC iPlayer.
