A VAN dweller has chosen the most unexpected insulating material for his home-on-wheels makeover.

This product took the hard work out of his DIY job because it was flexible, easy to stuff, and was resistant to mold.

There was an issue, however, that almost saw him reaching for his nose plugs.

This stuff ponged really bad, enough to put hairs on your chest.

But it wasn't enough to put Jérome Mergen  (@jeronimox) off.

He was assured that the distinctly sheepy smell would disappear after a while.

Anyway, if this fleecy material kept sheep cozy and snug, it was good enough for him.

Filmmaker Jérome is building a van "to go to every country in Europe."

It's going to be a home-from-home for him, so a warm interior was a must.

“Sheep wool is the best insulation for your van," he said in his post.

He managed to push aside his reservations when it came to sniff factor because there were huge advantages to be had over wool competitors.

“First off, it is very flexible which makes it easy to stuff into any cavities or holes that you wouldn’t be able to insulate otherwise," he explained.

There was the environmental kudos too: “It’s also very ecologically friendly and sustainable.

“Another key advantage is that, unlike other materials, it is not really susceptible to mold because sheep wool is able to absorb moisture when it gets wet."

But the biggest draw for him was the promise to keep his van warm: "It is very good at insulating heat."

He was even able to overlook it's smelly nature: “I sniffed too much of it, lol," he said screwing up his face after catching a whiff.

Twelve months on, it was still effective: “Still stand by my work even after living one year in a van.”

Commenters loved the natural credentials of his DIY insulating job.

“Nice one. Natural, eco-friendly, and renewable," said one person.
