I made a perfect dupe of a £1k designer table using a £64 piece from B&Q – all I had to do was paint it black | The Sun
NOW is the time of year when a lot of us will start thinking about giving our house a little pre-Christmas refresh.
It’s always nice to have a few new, chic bits to impress the relatives who visit over the festive period.
So if you’re in the mood for a bit of DIY, you might want to listen up.
Kate Patterson is an interior whizz and architectural expert, who regularly shares her tips to elevate your home.
And she’s wowed viewers with a recent video shared on her Instagram account, @an_irish_homelife, by recreating a £1k designer table using a budget £60 piece from B&Q.
In the clip, the architecture graduate shows an image of a gorgeous McGee & Co Console Table in a understated matte black colour, with an eye-watering £1,000 price tag.

“Love this McGee & Co Console Table,” she asks followers, “but not the price?”
She then cuts to the very similar looking Mercers Furniture Corona Console Table, available at B&Q for just £65.99.
The three-drawer dresser is a dead ringer for the £1,000 designer table – the only difference is that it’s oak, rather than black.
So Kate took matters into her own hands, giving the B&Q console a lick of paint so that it became virtually indistinguishable from the McGee & Co product.

In the clip’s caption, she added that the B&Q version is the “perfect size and proportions” for a hallway – all for a saving of around £900.
Viewers were left jaw-dropped at the stunning piece, with many saying that they were going to give the project a whirl themselves.
“All gorgeous details!” one commented. “It’s such a great hack.”
“Love it, think I might copy you!” another added.
