Inside the life of Corrie’s Joe Duttine from famous wife to Touch of Frost
Coronation Street: Tim is attacked by Stephen
Coronation Street’s Joe Duttine has recently been involved in this year’s biggest storyline after his character Tim Metcalfe helped take down Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) but is facing some challenges of his own.
Tim was attacked by Stephen and bundled into the back of his taxi boot, left for dead in the middle of the woods.
Luckily, Tim was able to free himself from the car but has been struggling to get past the events which unfolded and get back to normal life.
Outside of the world of Tim, Joe Duttine has had a simply life and has even gone on to fall in love and marry his Corrie co-star.
Express.co.uk has taken a look inside Joe’s life, which includes a cameo in fan favourite A Touch of Frost.
Coronation Street stint
Joe first appeared on the ITV soap back in 2019, making a brief cameo as D.S Carr, before becoming a permanent fixture as Tim Metcalfe in 2013.
Tim had a troubled upbringing after his father Geoff Metcalfe (Ian Bartholomew) stopped his relationship with his mother Elaine Jones (Paula Wilcox) after having an affair with her friend Tessa.
Unfortunately, the hero he saw in his dad was a lie as he was oblivious to his abusive nature until 2020 when he saw first-hand how he treated his third wife Yasmeen Metcalfe (Shelley King).
Tim turned his back on him and finally started building a relationship with Elaine, whom he now is extremely close with.
The cab driver became a father in 2002 but abandoned his daughter Faye Windass (Ellie Leach) to her heroin-addicted mother Jenny when she was two years old.
Later in life he regretted his decision and was given a second chance when Faye found him on the internet and arranged a meeting.
His return caused problems between Faye and her adoptive mother Anna Windass (Debbie Rush), particularly when he moved into Coronation Street.
The pair went on to have a healthy relationship and he played a big part in Faye reconnecting with her own daughter Miley Hodge (Frankie-Jae Simmons).
Soon after his arrival on the cobbles, Tim began dating Sally Webster (Sally Dynevor) and the pair were married two years later.
Tim is best friends with Sally’s ex-husband Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell), alongside Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson).
From 2013 to 2016, Tim ran his own window cleaning business, with Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) as an apprentice.
Sally later bought 50 percent of Street Cars as part of her endeavour to improve her husband and Tim has worked there ever since, becoming the street’s favourite cabbie.
Previous marriage and finding love on the cobbles
Not much is known about Joe’s first marriage except the fact he has three children aged 25, 14 and 12.
Joe met his now-wife Sally Carman, who plays former drug addict Abi Franklin, on the set of Coronation Street back in 2018.
Sally and Joe kept their relationship quiet at the beginning but soon went public with their relationship at the ITV summer party.
The couple have been together for nearly five years, with the pair moving in together in November 2019, just before the Covid lockdown.
During this time, Joe got down on one knee and asked Sally to marry him, with the soap star taking to her Instagram to reveal the news.
Posting a picture of her ring with the pair drinking champagne writing: “So this happened… #yes.” (sic)
Sally and Joe were set to get married back in December 2021, but unfortunately, it had to be postponed due to the pandemic.
She previously explained: “We should have been getting married this December. But we put it to next year because we didn’t know what the score was going to be Covid-wise.”
The couple finally tied the knot in July 2022.
Sally and Joe do not have any children together, but she has previously opened up about being a stepmom to his three children.
She told The Mirror: “They’re gorgeous kids, it’s so easy and I feel really lucky to have that extension of a family.
“Not to be a mother figure, because they’ve got a mum and they don’t need another, but just to have a relationship and some part in their journey into adulthood is amazing.”
Work outside of Coronation Street
Before stepping onto the cobbles and being a household name, Joe had a successful acting career on some of the biggest shows.
These included Lovejoy and A Touch of Frost, with his first big role beginning in 1994, starring as Steve Turner in detective comedy series Pie in the Sky.
He went on to play big roles in series such as Life on Mars and New Tricks, before appearing as Joe in the mini series Time of your Life in 2007 and Rutter in 2013 TV series The Village.
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
