Alex Jones addresses if she’ll stay at The One Show while juggling parenthood

Alex Jones ‘ran away’ from job after being terrified

Despite describing her life as a mum-of-three combined with her primetime BBC TV slot on The One Show as a “mammoth juggling act”, Alex Jones has confirmed she has no plans to step back from her lucrative contract any time soon.

Although the 46-year-old is on air most weeknights and wrestles with the heartache of her young trio of kids being in bed by the time she gets home, she insists that she’s keen for them to learn life lessons from seeing a mum who’s hardworking.

“Sometimes, I think, ‘God, I just wish I could be home to put them to bed,’ but on the other hand, I want them to see a mum who works,” she explained in a new interview with OK! magazine.

Referring to her youngest child and only daughter Annie, who is just two, she explained: “I want [her] especially to see a mother who, while being the nurturing parent, actually works.”

Even if the current arrangement means she has to forfeit tucking her into bed and reading her a story before lights out, she is adamant that she will make things work.

Meanwhile, she says her rarely-seen insurance broker husband Charlie Thomson is more than happy to get involved with childcare duties while she’s working late.

Her relationship did struggle when Charlie was diagnosed with both Lyme Disease and viral meningitis last year, with the stress of it all causing him to spiral into depression.

Talking on Gabby Logan’s The Midpoint podcast, she sadly revealed that her beloved husband had become a “shadow” of his former life.

However, he’s overhauled his lifestyle and nutrition and, Alex has revealed, is now in a much better place.

Although Alex has a regular working schedule, she does draw the line at reality shows that involve international travel.

She’s given a firm thumbs down to the possibility of appearing on the likes of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here!, insisting that she “couldn’t be away from the kids” for the extended period required.

Eldest son Edward (playfully known as Teddy), who’s five, his younger brother Kit, three, and then baby of the family Annie, two, are the apples of Alex’s eye.

There have been tearful moments when she’s had to wave Teddy off to go to primary school and she’s admitted she doesn’t know what she’ll do when all three kids reach school age.

Meanwhile, aside from The One Show, Alex has also appeared on Saturday Kitchen recently, and Michael McIntyre’s The Wheel.

It’s clear that she loves her fast-paced career in television, even if it is increasingly difficult to see her kids grow older at the same time, as it means they’ll be separated from her during the earlier part of the day when she’s at home.

Referring to waving her son off to primary school last month, she mused to her 352,000 Instagram followers: “He was amazing. A kiss goodbye and off he went. Excited about this new chapter and who can ask for more.

“Me, I didn’t handle it with quite as much poise. So proud of this tenacious little boy but I’ll miss our mornings!”
