Sam Thompson’s girlfriend Zara McDermott reveals secret plan to see him take on Bushtucker trials
Zara McDermott has revealed she's eagerly waiting for boyfriend Sam Thompson to be voted for a Bushtucker Trial on I'm A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! and has been voting for him "every night'.
Strictly Come Dancing star Zara, 26, has been watching Sam, 31, adjust to life in the Australian jungle, with the new series of the ITV show having launched on Sunday, 19 November.
Made in Chelsea star Sam is living with several other famous faces, including Danielle Harold, Josie Gibson, Fred Sirieix, Grace Dent and Jamie Lynn Spears.
He's proven to be a hit with viewers so far thanks to his positivity, but is yet to take on a Bushtucker Trial.
Zara is backing him all the way and has even teamed up with Sam's family to make sure he is receiving votes every night.
“I can't wait for Sam to be voted to do a trial," Zara told The Sun. "Me, Louise [Thompson] and the rest of the family will be voting for him every night. He’ll be so determined not to let the team down that I know he'll smash it."
She sweetly added: "We're only three episodes in but I already couldn't be prouder. He always puts others before himself and that's really coming through."
Sam narrowly missed out on the trial at the end of Tuesday's episode, with Jamie Lynn Spears receiving slightly more votes than him.
In a new interview on Hits Radio on Wednesday, 22 November, Zara revealed that she won't be meeting Sam at the end of the iconic I'm A Celebrity bridge when he exits the jungle.
Instead, Sam has requested his best pal Pete Wicks be there to greet him on the bridge. Pete and Sam became friends while filming Celebs Go Dating and have gone on to launch a podcast together.
Speaking to Fleur East, Zara revealed: "Do you what was funny? When I left Strictly, I was like right, so should I pack my case? How's this gonna work? And he was like 'Oh no Pete's going to be coming'.
"And I said 'oh, but you could change your ticket – maybe me and Pete could go?' He was like 'no, no. Just Pete.'"
Zara went on to say she "respects" Sam's choice and joked that she has "all the time in the world" to see him after the show.
"And I was like….ok. But do you know what, it's fine. It's absolutely fine. I've got all the time in the world to live with him and see him. He wants Pete at the end of that bridge and I respect it," Zara said.
