EastEnders viewers have demanded soap bosses to axe one of the show’s characters.

The character of Bernie Taylor has been a resident of Albert Square since 2017. But it seems the audience of the BBC soap is getting very tired of her indeed as they want her "killed off" by bosses.

During Thursday’s episode (October 5) Bernie was working in the cafe when she started gossiping about Theo attacking Stacey and Freddie.

“And they’re saying if he dies, Freddie could go down for murder,” she said, while serving Whitney and her beau who said: “That’s her family you’re talking about.”

Bernie went on: “I mean Stacey has got previous on that front.” But Whit wasn’t having it and fired back: “What’s your point? Maybe when you’ve had a stalker and they’ve forced their way into your home, you’ll realise what it can make people do.”

Viewers were left fuming and claimed the character has been "ruined" as she's become a gossip. Over on X, formerly known as Twitter, one person said: “Bernie is a really pointless character now. All she does is gossip about everyone else…”

Someone else fumed: “Why are they ruining my Bernie godddddd.” A third chimed in and said: “Can bernie BURN in that fire I'm sick of her being around…WHO THE HELL DOES SHE THINK SHE IS.”

Echoing their thoughts, another viewer proclaimed: “They just need to kill Bernie off now, why has she become an awful gossip?” A fifth fumed: “bernie needs to do one. seriously what is the point of her? all she does is make snide comments to everyone in the cafe. time for the axe methinks.”.

Bernie first set foot on Albert Square in 2017 along with the rest of the Taylor clan including mum Karen Taylor (Lorraine Stanley) and siblings Keanu (Danny Walters), Riley (Tom Jacobs) and Chatham (Alfie Jacobs).

In 2021 she left the soap for a brief hiatus before returning in March the following year. Throughout her time on EastEnders, Bernie has been involved in several big storylines including a teenage pregnancy and coming out as lesbian.
