Gynaecologist reveals the 10 most common reasons why you're struggling to enjoy an orgasm | The Sun

A GYNAECOLOGIST has revealed the 10 reasons you may be struggling to have an orgasm.

Sachin Maiti, a consultant at Pall Mall Medical, said one in five of his patients has never experienced a climax.

Mr Maiti, who has treated around 50,000 women, reckons the problem can be caused by a range of issues.

He said: “Stress, anxiety, past trauma, and even societal expectations can create a mental environment that inhibits the ability to fully let go and enjoy intimate moments.

“Mental and emotional blockages can have a profound impact on a woman's sexual experiences.”

Other woman can be affected by medical conditions that reduce their likelihood of having an orgasm.

He said: “Childbirth related trauma and medical procedures such as hysterectomy or pelvic surgery can lead to altered sensations and impact a woman's ability to achieve orgasm too.”

Anorgasmia — the physical condition of having delayed, infrequent or absent orgasms — affects around 4.6 per cent of women, according to studies.

Mr Maiti said: “This condition can be rooted in hormonal imbalances, neurological disorders, or certain medications that interfere with sexual response.”

The gynaecologist encouraged anyone who struggles with achieving an orgasm to reach out to a doctor and be open about their issues.

The 10 reasons you may be struggling to have an orgasm

1. Physical factors

Certain medical conditions, hormonal imbalances, or medications can affect a woman's ability to reach orgasm.

Conditions like diabetes, multiple sclerosis, or hormonal disorders could play a role.

2. Psychological factors

Stress, anxiety, depression, or other mental health issues can hinder the ability to relax and fully engage in sexual experiences, making it difficult to reach orgasm.

3. Relationship issue

Communication problems, unresolved conflicts, or lack of emotional intimacy with a partner can impact a woman's ability to feel comfortable and connected during sexual activity.

4. Body image and self-esteem

Negative body image or low self-esteem can lead to feelings of insecurity and inhibit the ability to fully enjoy sexual experiences.

5. Past trauma

Previous experiences of sexual abuse, assault, or trauma can have a lasting impact on one's ability to trust and feel safe during intimate moments.

6. Cultural and religious influences

Societal or cultural beliefs about sex and pleasure, as well as religious upbringing, can create mental barriers that interfere with the ability to experience orgasm.

7. Lack of knowledge

Limited understanding of one's own body and sexual anatomy can make it challenging to explore and discover what feels pleasurable.

8. Performance pressure

Feeling pressure to "perform" or meet certain expectations in bed can lead to anxiety and hinder the natural progression towards orgasm.

9. Inadequate stimulation

Insufficient or improper stimulation of erogenous zones can make it difficult to reach a level of arousal necessary for orgasm.
