Why was Marjorie Taylor Greene's Twitter account permanently suspended?

REPUBLICAN Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is no stranger to getting booted off Twitter.

The politician has constantly been temporarily banned from the platform after posting controversial tweets on her page.

Why was Marjorie Taylor Greene's Twitter account permanently suspended?

Marjorie Taylor Greene, 47, has been kicked off Twitter after repeatedly violating the platform's policy.

Her account @mtgreenee has been permanently suspended, "for repeated violations of our COVID-19 misinformation policy," Twitter spokesperson said.

It was not immediately clear which tweet prompted the permanent suspension.

She still, however, has access to her congressional account @RepMTG.

This is not the first time Greene has been flagged by Twitter.

On Monday, August 9, 2021, Greene tweeted that the Food and Drug Administration “should not approve the covid vaccines.”

She also claimed the vaccines were “failing” and that they were ineffective at reducing the virus’s spread.

In response, Twitter labeled the tweet as misleading and temporarily blocked her account.

In the past, Greene was suspended from Twitter for tweeting at Trump supporters to “mobilize” due to recent “attacks on their liberties.”

At the time, Greene tweeted: "I encourage all Americans, not just the 75 million people who voted for President Trump, to mobilize and make your voices heard in opposition to these attacks on our liberties."

The tweet was deleted two hours after it was sent, but it was archived by the news outlet, ProPublica.

Greene released a statement about her suspension blaming the "big tech" for silencing elected officials.

Prior to that tweet, she had also posted a photo that read: “END ABORTION IN AMERICA” and jabbed at Republicans for their loss in the Georgia election.

Greene tweeted: “Morons like you are responsible for losing GA’s 2 Republican Senate seats.

“You ran a Nov 3rd election that was stolen bc you idiots at the SOS mailed out millions of absentee ballots to any one and everyone while GA was an open state. Then you counted ballots on Dominion..”

The tweet was flagged for election fraud and could not be liked, retweeted, or replied to due to "risk of violence” according to Twitter.

What did Twitter say about Marjorie Taylor Greene's suspension?

Amid the temporary suspension, a company spokesperson told CNN that the tweet, “was labeled in line with our COVID-19 misleading information policy.

"The account will be in read-only mode for a week due to repeated violations of the Twitter Rules.”

According to Twitter’s Covid-19 misinformation policy, users can receive a one-week suspension if they violate that policy four times.

Violating the Covid-19 policy five or more times can result in a permanent ban.

Yet, Twitter did not state how many times Greene has violated the company’s rules.

As of January 2, 2022, her account has been "permanently suspended" as a result of repeated violations of misinformation.

What has Marjorie Taylor Greene said about being suspended from Twitter?

Tia Mitchell, the Washington correspondent for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution posted an excerpt of Greene's statement on her Twitter account.

"Twitter is an enemy to America and can't handle the truth," the excerpt begins.

"That's fine, I'll show America we don't need them and it's time to defeat our enemies. They can't successfully complete a Communist revolution when people tell the truth.

"Social media platforms can't stop the truth from being spread far and wide. Big Tech can't stop the truth. Communist Democrats can't stop the truth.

"I stand with the truth and the people. We will overcome!"
