A football club was left horrified after two vandals allegedly destroyed its defibrillator just hours after Denmark star Christian Eriksen collapsed on the pitch.

Buxted FC, in Uckfield, East Sussex, shared horrifying footage of the device appearing to be vandalised in the early hours of Sunday (June 13).

It happened after Eriksen suffered cardiac arrest during his country’s Euro 2020 fixture against Iceland in Copenhagen, Denmark on Saturday night (June 12).

The CCTV clip showed a male and female appear to smash it up after pulling it out of its box.

The man was seen hurling it at the wall and in the floor, while both were filmed apparently stamping on it.

They eventually put it back in its case on the wall, before he spat in it, the footage showed.

The distraught football club posted an appeal on Twitter on Sunday night (June 13) in a bid to trace the suspects.

Buxted FC urged anyone with information to contact Sussex Police.

They wrote: “Last night at 12:50am, our defib was vandalised.

“It was caught on CCTV so if anyone has any information about who these two people are then please report it Sussex Police.”

Social media users reacted with horror to the appeal.

One Twitter user replied: “On the same night many of the world watched a footballer’s life literally saved by one of these machines, these two decide to destroy a defib.”

Another called it “senseless”.

Comic Janey Godley wrote: “I just can’t understand this.”

Danish team doctor Morten Boesen confirmed Inter Milan star Eriksen, 29, had suffered a cardiac arrest when he collapsed shortly before -half-time.

He said that “we got him back” after one defibrillation on the pitch.

Officials said he was stable in hospital and had sent his greetings to his teammates.

Sussex Police has been approached for comment.
