The US Air Force has detected and destroyed yet another high-altitude object over its territory, the Pentagon has announced.

The object was shot down over Lake Huron, not far from the Canadian border.

It’s the third unidentified object in as many days to be shot down over North America. The US military has been on high alert since a suspected Chinese spy balloon was shot down on February 4.

Michigan state representative Elissa Slotkin, from Michigan, tweeted that she had received a call from the US Department of Defence saying that the US military “has an extremely close eye” on an object above Lake Huron.

“Just got a call from @DeptofDefense — our military has an extremely close eye on the object above Lake Huron,” Slotkin said in a tweet on Sunday. “We’ll know more about what this was in the coming days, but for now, be assured that all parties have been laser-focused on it from the moment it traversed our waters.”

She added: “The object has been downed by pilots from the US Air Force and National Guard. Great work by all who carried out this mission both in the air and back at headquarters. We’re all interested in exactly what this object was and its purpose”.
