Thief makes off with dozens of puppies and birds from Bronx pet store

This cat-burglar got the canaries — and puppies too!

A thief broke into a Bronx pet store this week and flew the coop with dozens of birds and puppies, cops said.

The bandit clipped the front gate and shattered the glass door of the Gabby Pets Discount Shop on Grand Concourse near East 183rd Street in Fordham Heights at 3:15 a.m. Wednesday, cops said.

While inside, the suspect grabbed 63 animals, according to cops. A total of 51 canaries, 12 puppies, eight dog bags and six animal carriers were stolen, according to police sources.

The thief also bagged some cat food and $6,000, according to cops and sources.

“We don’t understand what happened,” a store clerk, who declined to identify herself, told the Post. “This is ridiculous. Who’s going to steal puppies?”

The clerk said the crooks smashed a window and broke the store’s door lock.

The woman, who said the theft was discovered Wednesday morning,  declined to comment further.

No arrests had been made by Thursday morning.
