A teenager had a terrifying encounter with a shark at a a Sydney beach while he was on his morning surf.
Christian Hlionakis was surfing at North Wollongong beach when he heard another surfer call out ‘shark’.
The 15-year-old told Daily Mail Australia he was terrified at first, but then realised there was nothing he could do to get away.

‘I was both scared but calm, I knew there was nothing I could do to get away as it was too close already and I didn’t want to take my eyes off it,’ he said.
He captured the incredible footage of the shark swimming dangerously close and posted it on Instagram.

Christian said the shark was about a metre and a half away, and he believes it may have been a ‘baby white’.
‘At first I was scared after another surfer called out shark but then we realised that it wasn’t aggressive at all and quite calm.
‘It didn’t try to bite, seem quite friendly to be honest, it was humbling to see it so calm as it swam past.’
‘I got out of the water shortly after.’
