Terrifying moment assassins ambush police car and open fire at cops

Two policemen were rushed to hospital after being ambushed and shot by a pair of assassins while on duty.

Shocking CCTV showed the law enforcement forces responding to a distress call as they drive through the Tres de Octubre neighbourhood in Tijuana, Mexico.

The two shooters, both dressed in black clothing, are seen hiding in an alley as a marked police pickup truck shows up.

They immediately start firing at the vehicle before quickly fleeing the scene.

Local newspaper El Imparcial said the two municipal police were rushing to attend an emergency call at around 10.24pm on Sunday, July 4.

One officer suffered a leg wound and the other suffered a scrape to the head by a bullet.

They were both taken by the local Red Cross paramedics and admitted to a hospital.

It is said both of them remain in stable condition.

Rodrigo Medeles Ruiz, chief of the Tijuana Security and Civilian Protection Ministry, shared the footage on Twitter and said the assailants were seeking to disrupt the ongoing police work that has been crucial in areas of the city where agents stood away from in the past.

"They were sent to respond to an emergency that took them to a place and there was an ambush," he added.

"That is cruel, it is the work of criminals. It is an advantage when the police are doing their job well."

Last month, an American tourist was shot by a stray bullet following a cartel assassination at the popular Mexican hotspot of Cancun.

The hitmen reportedly fired their weapons from their jet skis in the sea within the hotel zone of Playa Tortugas, killing two men.

During the shooting, a woman was hit in the shoulder after being caught in a crossfire.

And a week prior to that incident, police found human heads and severed hands discarded at polling stations in the city of Tijuana during the country’s midterm election.
