Soldier bursts into tears as flight delays cause him to miss daughter’s birth

It’s a day no dad would want to miss.

Yet sometimes, geography and circumstance mean a number of excited fathers-to-be can’t be present at their child’s birth.

Brooks Lindsey was one such dad.

The soldier found himself stranded on Saturday while trying to travel home to Brandon, Mississippi after his flight got delayed.

It was at this time that his wife, Haley Lindsey, started to go into labour .

Despite his clear devastation at not being present, Brooks did the next best thing – and it makes for a powerful picture (which one of his fellow travellers captured).

"He was crying and our hearts were breaking. We all gave him space."

Tracy Dover spotted Brooks, anxiously glued to his phone and watching his daughter, Millie, enter the world.

She continues: "When we heard the baby cry, we all rejoiced for him. I wanted to share this because I never want us to forget about our soldiers who serve us everyday and the sacrifices they make."

It did not take long for the touching image to hit a nerve with others.

"Military life is not easy, I can say this because I was a military wife for 20 years! My heart breaks for this solider but so glad he was able to watch the birth on line!" one woman wrote.

"My ex-husband made it home a week after my son was born. The Red Cross process is incredibly slow. He rejoined his battalion, and his dad died two months later – he didn’t make it back that time until his dad had been dead for two days. He would have killed for some kind of video conference," commented another lady.

Since Tracy shared the photo, Brooks’ wife has thanked everyone for their heartfelt wishes.
