Senate panel says it will vote Friday on Kavanaugh nomination

The Senate Judiciary Committee said Thursday night that it plans to hold a vote Friday morning on Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to the Supreme Court.

Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) had tentatively scheduled the vote earlier this week — pending the outcome of Thursday’s testimony by Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford.

Ford, who accused Kavanaugh of sexual assault during a party in 1982, spent hours testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday.

Kavanaugh also appeared and defended himself against the accusations.

“There will be a vote tomorrow morning,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said after a meeting with Republicans.

GOP Senators on the committee believe they have enough votes to advance Kavanaugh’s nomination to a full Senate vote.

The first procedural vote will take place on the Senate floor Saturday, CNN reported.
