Selfridges employee mocks customers buying reduced jeans for £1
‘People are going crazy and it’s really entertaining!’ Selfridges worker films herself mocking customers who flock to buy reduced jeans for £1 in Oxford Street department store
- Columba Ferguson posted the video to her TikTok profile on Saturday
- She allegedly then ‘boasted’ to colleagues about how it had gone ‘viral’
A Selfridges employee filmed herself appearing to mock customers for flocking to buy reduced pairs of jeans as soon as she put them on rails at the firm’s flagship Oxford Street store.
Columba Ferguson, who works in the Women’s section on the third floor of the exclusive Central London outlet, posted a video on her TikTok profile on Saturday.
In the video, which prompted a deluge of negative comments before it was deleted a few hours later, she said it was ‘really entertaining’ that customers were ‘going crazy’ over the jeans, which had been reduced to £1, down from more than £200.
Reacting to the clip, a colleague who overheard her ‘boasting’ about it at work told MailOnline that she seemed to be ‘taking the mickey out of customers’.

Ms Ferguson said in the video, which was filmed during her shift: ‘Selfridges’ sale was still on, like there’s a little rail in middle section, I’m on third floor Womens.
‘People are going crazy for it and it is just really entertaining.
‘I completely get it, like there’s literally things from like £1,000 down to £1. So that’s like so fair do you know what I mean? But, everyone is just like fighting over it.’
She was then seen carrying a box full of jeans to the reduced section, before customers gathered as soon as they were placed on the rails.
Ms Ferguson then said, ‘here we go again’ as she carried another armful of reduced pairs of jeans.
Some customers were heard complaining after one man took several items in one go out of Ms Ferguson’s arms.
As she walked away, a ‘friend’ who was filming her appeared to say ‘what the f***’.
Ms Ferguson told viewers: ‘Anyways, that was a bit of entertainment for the day’.
She was then seen in a store room as she added: ‘In all seriousness though, there are jeans for £1.’

According to her LinkedIn profile, Ms Ferguson works to ‘maintain customer relationships through networking and gaining VIP clients.’
She also claims to host ‘one-to-one styling appointments’.
Her disgruntled colleague, who also works as a sales advisor at the Oxford Street outlet, said: ‘I overheard her talking about it at work, she was saying how it went viral, she seemed to be boasting about it.
‘I thought it was slightly funny but it was a bit naughty.
‘She has got her name tag on, it kind of seemed like she was taking the mickey out of the customers shopping in the discounted section.
‘And you can see a smirk on her face.’
They explained that the jeans were reduced so much because they were left over from last year’s Christmas period.
‘She was definitely on shift, it’s definitely a no no. She’s recording the customers, that is what annoyed me,’ they added.
Asked what punishment Ms Ferguson should face, they said: ‘I would say, not dismissal but maybe a warning.
‘The social media policy is that you don’t post anything on there that could bring Selfridges’ reputation into disrepute.’
Ms Ferguson and Selfridges have been approached for comment.
