Runaway aristocrat’s life on estate with rich dad who shaved head after epiphany

An woman who vanished with her partner is the daughter of a former heir to an £115million fortune who had a spiritual awakening and gave up his estate.

The daughter of Napier Marten, Constance Marten, 35, was found in Brighton after vanishing with her newborn and partner Mark Gordon, 48.

Constance’s father is a former page to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and was the heir to a £115million fortune – but gave it all up after he had an "epiphany".

Marten is understood to have been standing on a cliff with a group of Australian aborigines when he had the epiphany that ultimately lead to him shaving his hair off and learning how to be a head masseuse.

Although the whereabouts of the couple are now known, the newborn’s is not.

Concern is growing over the chances of finding the baby alive and the couple have now been arrested on suspicion of child neglect and gross negligence manslaughter.

It remains unknown why Constance went on the run with the man 13 years older than her, with speculation over the matter rife.

Fears are now mounting over whether the baby can be found alive.

Constance grew up on the 5,000-acre Crichel estate with her two brothers, Tobias, 31, and Maximilian, 34.

She attended the £30,000-a-year private St Mary's School prior to it closing down in 2020.

In her life there MailOnline reports she enjoyed: “Naked picnics, siestas amid [hay bales], and tractor scoops.”

She would go on to feature in Tatler magazine as the “babe of the month” while she studied Arabic and Middle Eastern studies at the University of Leeds.

Asked in the magazine what the best party she had attended was she said: “Viscount Cranbourne's party in Dorset – the theme was the Feast of Bacchus.”

She also said her favourite place was on top of the Matterhorn, which she had recently climbed at the time.

She would later go on to join the East 15 drama school before dropping out in 2016.

A classmate told the Sunday Times Constance was “just beautiful, full of life, full of kindness” and “very talented”.

Crichel was left to Maximillian when Napier had the 1996 awakening that would see him go on to work as a tree surgeon.

Napier Marten has previously explained how he and his daughter became estranged after she met Gordon in 2016.

Reaching out to the pair via the Independent, he said: “Darling Constance, even though we remain estranged at the moment, I stand by, as I have always done and as the family has always done, to do whatever is necessary for your safe return to us.

“The past eight years have been beyond painful for all the family as well as your friends, as they must have been for you. And to see you so vulnerable again is testing in the extreme.

“Please Constance, find the courage to present yourself to the police as soon as possible.”

Anyone who may be able to assist in the search for the couple’s baby is urged to contact 999.
