A dedicated fan of bold colour-blocking, a natty brooch and a secret-weapon handbag – the Queen definitely has her own aesthetic going on.
As surprising as it may seem, she also frequently tops many a ‘best dressed’ list because she knows what works for her and never looks dated or naff.
Her Maj knows diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and she also knows she needs to stand out in a crowd (she’s 5′ 4" tall).
So it’s safe to say, she puts a lot of thought into her outfits, and therefore her style choices will be well thought through. Nothing will be left to chance.
A key part of her style is the fact that she never wears trouser. At least, for official engagements (there’s also an urban myth saying she has literally never donned a pair of jeans in her life).
There was one occasion, however, when she did wear trousers.
While she’s been spotted in her riding trousers or tartan trousers on her Balmoral estate, this is strictly her off-duty look.
The one time she did sport a pair of trousers in public was back in 1970, when she was on an official tour of Canada.
On this occasion, the Queen opted for a silk troupe suit by Ian Thomas.
The reason behind this bold deviation from her usual style was the fact that she wanted to modernise her look a little.
However, given that this was the first and last trouser outing for her, we can only assume she realised "hey, I’m the Queen, and I don’t need to modernise my look" – as she’s never been seen in them (while on duty) since.
You just do you, Your Majesty.
