Princess Diana would not have been a "great fan" of Meghan Markle, at least not as much as Meghan "might perhaps imagine", according to one of the late princess' friends.
Tina Brown – who is also the author of The Diana Chronicles and The Palace Papers – made the comments while speaking on the 25th anniversary of the Princess of Wales' death yesterday (August 31).
Brown said that her friend was "very protective" of Prince Harry and Prince William, and would have been "very anxious" over the direction Harry has taken in recent years, alongside his wife.

She told The Daily Beast: "I think she would have felt Meghan was steering Harry in a direction that was not good for Harry. I don’t think Diana would have been the great fan of Meghan that Meghan herself might perhaps imagine."
Brown went on to add that she reckons Diana would have been "thrilled" when Harry first met Meghan, and "delighted, supportive and thrilled someone of mixed race was joining the Royal Family" because she was so "inclusive".
She also said that Diana and Meghan differ in one way in particular.
Explaining that Diana used Kensington Palace as her "base", Brown said: "Unlike Harry and Meghan she understood having the power base of monarchy was enormously important."

Brown's comments come after Ingrid Seward, the editor of Majesty magazine who was also close to the Princess of Wales, said Diana would be "thrilled" that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex moved to America.
Seward told The Mirror: "She decided she wanted to settle in America and would be thrilled Harry has realised her dream for himself and done just that.
"She knew William's destiny was the monarchy and would have been happy he has come to terms with his tough role."
