Prince William’s love token to Kate at university that proved he was smitten

Lovebirds Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoyed a beautiful royal wedding and have had three kids since first getting together – but their captivating romance started more than a decade ago with a sweet gesture whilst the pair were both still at university.

The charming Duke of Cambridge, who had eyes on his future wife at St Andrews University in Scotland ever since they met after attending in 2001, charmed Kate with the heartwarming gift of a premarital ring.

Smitten William splashed the cash on a luxurious rose gold ring encrusted with their birthstones in the first sign of what was to be for the much-loved senior royal couple.

It was laced with garnets to represent Kate’s birthstone, and also featured pearls to represent the young Prince William.

The Princess of Wales would go on to wear the intimate piece of jewellery at her graduation in 2005 in a sign of her dedication to marrying into and serving The Firm.

It marked the start of an iconic royal relationship that has lasted so long, with the pair recently announcing they are auctioning off pieces of cake that marks an impressive 11 years in wedlock.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who will likely one day become King and Queen Consort, married at Westminster Abbey on April 29, 2011 after waiting nine years to get engaged from the moment the loved-up duo’s blossoming relationship started at university.
