​​President Biden still has not set a date to address a joint session of Congress, the White House said Wednesday.

​”​There’s no update yet. We have a speech coming up next week, and we certainly remain interested in committing to doing a joint session. W​e remain engaged with them​,​ but I don’t have an update on the specific timing​,” press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at the daily briefing. ​​

Biden will hold his first solo news conference on Thursday — ​64 days into his administration. ​

Psaki had previously said the president was concentrating on getting his $1.9 trillion coronavirus stimulus plan through Congress before turning his focus to the speech. 

But the relief package passed the Senate ​on March 8 without any Republican votes, raising questions about Biden’s vow to pursue bipartisanship. ​

Presidents typically make their initial address to Congress in the first few weeks after entering the White House, but it is not called a “State of the Union” speech, which comes in the second year of the term.
