Chilling new video shows the chaotic aftermath of a man’s fatal shooting Saturday night in Portland, Ore., amid violent clashes between Black Lives Matter protesters and President Trump supporters.
The footage — posted to YouTube by local videography channel Stumptown Matters — does not capture images of the 8:45 p.m. local time shooting, but a man can be heard yelling, “We got a couple right here!” followed by a pair of gunshots.
The victim — who, according to a freelance Associated Press photographer was wearing a cap bearing the insignia of right-wing group Patriot Prayer — is then seen lying face-down and motionless on the street, as another man rushes over, asking, “You OK?”
The man flips the victim onto his back, and four apparent Black Lives Matter protesters run into frame, one of them dropping a bag to kneel down beside the victim.
“Get the f–k out of here!” the initial caretaker roars at the kneeling demonstrator, shoving her backwards.
“She’s trying to help him!” another apparent protester thunders back. “She’s a f–king medic! She’s trying to help him, so let her help!”
“Call 911, man!” another man can be heard yelling above the din.
Eventually, the shot man’s friend relents and allows the medic to aid him.
In the span of seconds, about a dozen riot gear-clad cops flood the scene, ordering onlookers further and further back while trying to gather information about the shooting, video shows.
“I watched him drop,” one woman tells the officers, adding that she saw a car drive off, which another onlooker described as red.
While video shot from another angle does appear to show a red car rolling off seconds after the incident, there was no indication it had anything to do with the shooting.
It was also not immediately clear if the shooting was linked to sporadic fighting as about 600 vehicles packed with pro-Trump supporters were confronted by counter-demonstrators in Portland’s downtown.
The victim, struck in the chest, was ultimately pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigators are yet to publicly identify him, or a suspect in the slaying.
The City of Roses has been roiled nightly by protests, at times violent, since the late May death of George Floyd, a black man killed in Minneapolis beneath the knee of a white police officer.
