Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have had a "painful" year after they decided to step down as senior royals, a royal author has claimed.

The couple's nanny moved back to the UK since they journeyed to the US and the pandemic left them feeling "alone", Finding Freedom authors have said.

Carolyn Durand and Omid Scobie, who co-wrote the biography of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, allege that since moving to LA, difficult changes have occured.

Omid Scobie wrote in Grazia: "To be at the point they are at now, having set up an empire and a charity in just over nine months, shows just how hard they have worked to make this transition a success.

"But it’s taken a lot of work to get here. The journey has been painful."

The authors went on to claim the move has been challenging for Meghan, 39, who juggled motherhood with moving home four times, writes Mail Online.

A friend of the duchess reportedly told Durand: "It's just been a lot. Their nanny moved back to the UK when they moved to LA because of the pandemic and restrictions left them feeling quite alone. Each move made them feel more displaced."

Since making the move to LA, the royals have been "eager to contribute to the community," added Omid Scobie.

They helped in the state's Covid-19 response by delivering food parcels for those too ill to cook for themselves.

Sources also claim the couple "haven't looked back" since they made the decision to step down as senior royals.

The couple left the UK at the end of March last year and moved to California where they have since bought a £11million mansion and launched their good causes organisation called Archewell.

They also launched a podcast where they speak to celebrity guests, with Elton John invited to the first recording where he opened but about being sober for several years.

In September, it was announced Meghan and Prince Harry signed a multi-year deal with Netflix to produce documentaries, feature films, children's programming and scripted shows.
