King Charles ‘ignoring his mother’s request’ by giving Camilla title of Queen

Queen Consort Camilla could be in line for a title change that goes against the wishes of the late Her Majesty the Queen.

It is understood that change will come after King Charles’s coronation in May, having become Queen Consort following the death of Queen Elizabeth in September 2022.

Now, citing unnamed sources, the Daily Mail has reported that Camilla’s title will drop the Consort for specific engagements.

The former Duchess of Cornwall’s new name however could be seen as a diversion from the wants of the late Queen.

In February 2022, Queen Elizabeth wrote down her wishes for Camillia in a letter, in which she said: “And when, in the fullness of time, my son Charles becomes King, I know you will give him and his wife Camilla the same support that you have given me; and it is my sincere wish that, when the time comes, Camilla will be known as Queen Consort as she continues her own loyal service."

But now it seems there could be a divergence from this exact wish.

One of Camilla’s charities, the Duchess of Cornwall’s Reading Room, has undergone a rebrand and will be known as Queen’s Reading Room.

The source told the outlet: “There’s a view in the Palace that Queen Consort is cumbersome and it might be simpler for Camilla to be known just as the Queen when the time is right."
