Kamala Harris trips as she joins President-elect Joe Biden for joint inauguration

Joe Biden inauguration: Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff arrive

Vice President-elect Kamala Harris caught the back of her heel on the last step but tripped slightly before regaining her balance and continuing to walk outside. Democrat Joe Biden, 78, will become the oldest US president in history at a scaled-back ceremony in Washington that has been largely stripped of its usual pomp and circumstance. His running mate, Kamala Harris, will be the first woman to serve as vice president after she is sworn in by US Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.

One Twitter user wrote: “She didn’t trip. She gracefully skipped.”

Another added: “I’m so glad Kamala Harris caught herself from that little trip down the stairs.”

A third person said: “Think we all were praying for Kamala Harris not to trip down those stairs.”
