For months, Kelly has been the target of near constant reports of a shakeup at the top of the White House staff.

The drumbeat increased dramatically in February, when Kelly’s handling of the firing of former White House Secretary Rob Porter came under scrutiny.

Most recently, Kelly was rumored to be under consideration for the spot of Veterans Affairs secretary after the president’s last pick withdrew his nomination.

A White House spokesman denied Kelly was being considered for VA, and the administration has consistently denied that Kelly’s job is at risk.
