Interstate 70 is closed in both directions between the Eisenhower tunnel and Silverthorne after a five-vehicle crash that killed at least one person, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The closure was first reported by the Colorado Department of Transportation just after 11 p.m. Tuesday when a semi-trailer caught fire in the westbound lanes.
CSP said they first responded to the crash at 10:47 Tuesday. They do not know the extent of the injuries of the other people involved in the wreck.
According to CDOT cameras, crews were still at the scene Wednesday morning.
Tamara Rollison of CDOT told Denver7 that I-70 would stay closed for a while Wednesday, and there is no estimated time for reopening.
CSP is investigating the incident on-scene still Wednesday morning and is currently working to tow the vehicles.
U.S. Highway 6 over Loveland Pass is the alternate route.
