Terrifying footage has captured a military helicopter plunging out of the sky before crashing into the sea, reportedly killing the pilot.

The harrowing scenes were filmed off the coast of Bouharoun in Algeria’s Tipaza Province this morning (December 16).

In the video, posted to Twitter by @Alg1144, the aircraft can be seen spiralling out of control as it heads at speed towards the water surface.

It then hits the water with a huge splash.

According to local news outlet Al-Hadath, the craft was a military helicopter.

And Al Ain are also reporting that the pilot has been killed as a result.

Tragically, it’s not the first fatal helicopter crash this month.

Five people died and one was left seriously injured after their vehicle crashed in the French Alps on December 4.

The aircraft crashed at an altitude of 1,800 meters (5,905 feet), local authorities said.

And a pilot and his wife were tragically killed on their way to lunch with their children after their aircraft spiralled out of control in New Zealand.

Andrew Hamish Davidson, and his wife, Lin, were taking three children for a meal at a popular restaurant in Kekerengu when the incident happened around 12.40pm on Tuesday (December 15).

Incredibly, the couple’s two young children and a third were pulled out of the wreckage alive but remain in serious condition.
