Harry and Meghan could ‘upstage’ coronation with Archie update, says expert

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle could seek to "upstage" King Charles' coronation, according to a royal expert.

Buckingham Palace has arranged the coronation to take place on May 6 – the same day as Archie’s 4th birthday.

It is traditional for royal households to release photo portraits on a family member’s birthday.

However, royal columnist Lee Cohen reckons if a photo is shared on the day of the coronation, it would be with the attempt to “upstage” the King.

Cohen told Express.co.uk: “It’s terribly petty, but the Sussexes, who no longer have their royal platform, seem to relish any opportunity to attempt to upstage a royal occasion.

“It’s not as if the Royal Family seek occasions to upstage the antics of the Sussexes, quite the opposite.”

The couple celebrated Lilibet Diana's birthday during the Queen's Platinum Jubilee last summer and went on to release a portrait of her.

It remains unclear whether Harry and Meghan will attend the coronation in London, given obvious family tensions.

Royal correspondent Natalie Oliveri told Express.co.uk the couple were "being encouraged to not pull any stunts during the coronation and really stick to the plan".

“I think their appearance at the coronation will be very similar to that of the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last year," she said.

“We might see them at one or two events but largely they will be kept in the shadows because they want to take away from the historical event.

“It’s also Archie’s birthday too so they might host a little party at Frogmore Cottage like they did with Lilibet.”

It has been reported that Harry is hoping for an apology from Charles and Prince William prior to the day, but sources have said this is unlikely.
