A giant 3D cat is amazing shoppers on a billboard in Tokyo, Japan.

Footage shows a massive calico cat taking a kip on a white ledge above a light switch. 

With its paws tucked neatly under its chin, the giant cat looks perfectly content until one of its feet slides off the ledge, waking it.  

The cat then scrambles into a crouch as it looks down in apparent fright at the drop to the floor below. 

The cat settles, then wags its tail, and appears to purr while looking down on the pedestrians below.

The stunning graphic repeats the movement several times an hour on the 154.7 square metre, 4K quality screen. 

It is being shown on a new advert billboard above a building owned by Cross Skinjuku Vision at Skinjuku train station, the busiest in the world.  

At 7am, the cat stands awake on the screen and later in the evening the cat slowly falls asleep on its paws before it finally shuts at 1am. 

The cat has been displayed on the billboard for the last few weeks ahead of the official launch on July 12.
