It has been described as a “glorified blog” by critics as the platform allows the former US president to post comments, images and videos but does not have a way for users to reply to Mr Trump’s content. The platform, titled “From the Desk of Donald J Trump”, will act as a host for Mr Trump’s press releases.
A source familiar with the space told Fox News: “This is just a one-way communication. This system allows Trump to communicate with his followers.”
Commenting on the Fox News exclusive, Twitter users were quick to mock the former President, making comparisons to late ‘90s blogging on AOL and MySpace.
Daniel Strauss, senior political reporter at the Guardian US, tweeted: “This is basically a tumblr.”
Another user wrote: “74-year-old man transports back in time to 1998 to blog about how unfair people are and how badly he is treated.”
One more said: “Mr Trump has invented blogging.”
Another said: “It’s basically a personal blog for someone who can only think thoughts 280 words long.”
Mr Trump’s new communications platform comes a few months after Mr Trump received a ban from Facebook and Twitter.
Mr Trump was suspended from the social media platforms in the wake of the US Capitol riots on January 6 and his exit from the White House.
A video posted to the platform on Tuesday night plays images from news reports, showing Mr Trump’s suspension from Twitter, and reads: “In a time of silence and lies, a beacon of freedom arises.
“A place to speak freely and safely. Straight from the desk of Donald J Trump.”
The platform is powered by Campaign Nucleus, a “digital ecosystem” created by Brad Parscale, Mr Trump’s former campaign manager, for “efficiently managing political campaigns and organisations.”
The platform heavily features options to donate to Mr Trump and buy ‘Make America Great Again’ products.
