Dominic Cummings snaps at ITV New reporter on Brexit night

‘Are you going to continue to ask inane questions? I’m going back to work’: Boris Johnson’s Brexit mastermind Dominic Cummings shuts down ITV New reporter when asked if he will be celebrating Britain leaving the EU

  • ITV journalist and camera crew caught the Downing Street strategist last night
  • Mr Cummings stonewalled their probing, before finally losing his patience
  • He snapped at the persistent reporter for haranguing him with ‘inane questions’

He is the political maverick who masterminded the campaign to take Britain out of the EU before entering Number 10 as Boris Johnson’s top aide.

But Dominic Cummings did not appear in high spirits on Brexit night and snapped at a reporter who confronted him in the street.

An ITV journalist and camera crew caught the Downing Street strategist as he emerged from a Westminster Pizza Express moments before the UK marked a new chapter outside the EU at 11pm.

Mr Cummings stonewalled their probing, before finally losing his patience and berating the reporter’s ‘inane questions’.

After the reporter suggested the occasion must be a ‘special moment’ for the Vote Leave architect, Mr Cummings replied: ‘Well, you can say what you want to, I’m going back to work.’

The government adviser, characteristically dressed down in a beanie hat and untucked shirt, continues to swat away the journalist’s questions about if he will be celebrating with the Prime Minister when he gets back to Number 10.

Yet, to Mr Cummings’s clear annoyance, the broadcaster pursues his enquiries undeterred by the unenthusiastic replies he is getting.

When the reporter asks ‘does the hard work start now,’ his patience appears to snap.

Mr Cummings turns to face his interrogator and says: ‘Are you going to continue to ask inane questions?’

The reporter replies: ‘I’d like to have a conversation with you about tonight…’

Mr Cummings interrupts: ‘Well we’re not going to have a conversation. Are you going to walk along asking inane questions? Is that your best move?’

The journalist repeats his desire to ‘have a conversation’, which Mr Cummings scorns and cuts in: ‘Is that all you can say? Have you got anything else to say?’ before walking off with his entourage.

The Prime Minister was holding a small party in Number 10 tonight to mark Britain’s departure from the EU, where English sparkling wine was served.

It was dwarfed by celebrations in Parliament Square, where a massive Brexit bash saw Nigel Farage address hundreds of Leave supporters.
