Doctor has medical licence suspended after bragging none of his staff wear masks

A doctor who bragged he refuses to wear a face mask during the Covid pandemic has had his medical licence suspended.

Steven LaTulippe also dismissed coronavirus as a “common cold” and said it was “no more” during a speech in the US last month.

But the medic, from Oregon, US, has now had his licence revoked after a video of his comments was posted online.

The Oregon Medical Board issued the emergency suspension last Thursday after finding he had engaged in “unprofessional conduct” or dishonourable conduct, NBC News reports.

It made the order over fears for the “safety and welfare” of his current and future patients.

The board had already received complaints about advice he was giving patients about Covid-19 at the South View Medical Arts clinic in Dallas, Oregon.

In a statement, it said he “regularly tells his patients that masks are ineffective in preventing the spread” of Covid and should not be worn.

A patient complained in July he had said that wearing a mask did not stop it from spreading.

The board found the doctor and the staff in his clinic refused to wear masks in the clinic and urged people who entered it to remove their masks.

It ordered him to stop practising medicine until further notice and slammed his actions as a “serious danger to the public health or safety”.

The doctor made the controversial remarks at a November 7 rally in support of US President Donald Trump after the presidential election.

At the 'Stop the Steal' rally, he said he wanted to “expose what I call corona mania”.

According to BuzzFeed, he said: "I hate to tell you this. I might scare you, but I and my staff, none of us, once wore a mask in my clinic."

He added: "We've been utterly duped.

"I want you to know that this is insanity and the purpose is only to shut down the American people.”

He claimed it was a threat to your freedom” and urged spectators to “please take off the mask of shame”.

He added: “It is just a mask that is designed to control you and to shut you down.”

Studies have found masks are effective at curbing the disease from spreading.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the US recommends wearing one to reduce transmission.

The ruling bans him from practising medicine anywhere in the state of Oregon.
