CHO: Returned traveller had limited movement

Victorian Health Minister Martin Foley has said two people have tested positive to COVID-19 in relation to the Holiday Inn quarantine hotel.

One person completed their 14-day quarantine and another, who Mr Foley says he was notified about on his way to the press conference, was a worker.

Mr Foley said the woman, who had completed the 14 days and then returned a positive test, had limited movement in the community.

“At the moment, every indication is that [she had] very limited movement. We’ve only identified one other social and household primary close contact. But of course, this number may change when the view is completed.

Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton says it is likely that the cases were a result of transmission inside the hotel quarantine system.

“Someone who has already done their 14 days and has left quarantine had been exposed maybe just before leaving quarantine then develops illness, we think that’s what’s happened in this case,” Professor Sutton said.

“The focus of our attention is on the transmission that might have occurred on the relevant floor where positive cases were known to be.”
