Copper who jilted bride on £12k wedding day refuses to apologise for heartbreak

A copper who jilted his wife-to-be on their wedding day has refused to apologise for ditching her at the 11th hour.

Kallum Norton, 24, bailed on his own wedding just hours before the celebrations were due to kick off, breaking his fiancée Kayley Stead's heart.

Kallum, a newly-qualified PC with Gwent Police, had been staying in a caravan near the venue the night before he was supposed to tie the knot in a dream wedding but legged it in the early hours instead, reports The Sun.

When the newspaper approached the rookie copper to ask if he would apologise to Kayley, Kallum said: "I don’t want to talk about the article.”

On hearing her ex's response, Kayley, 27, said: 'I don’t expect anything different, but I do expect someone to own their actions and be responsible for what they did."

Kayley and Kallum had been together for nearly four years, and lived together in Swansea. Their wedding was supposed to take place on September 15 at Oxwich Bay Hotel in Gower, Swansea, and the planned bash had cost the pair £12,000.

As the Daily Star previously reported, Kayley was getting her make-up done for the big day, when she discovered Kallum had done a runner.

Despite being heartbroken, Kayley styled out the day like a true boss and decided to crack on without him instead of wasting her life savings.

At the suggestion of the videographer and her sister, Kayley decided to go through with the day with her friends and family, but not the groom's family.

Instead of walking down the aisle, Kayley walked around the corner in her dress and initially, people just looked at her.

"Nobody knew what to do," she said. "I think they were a bit scared to say something. Suddenly everybody started cheering and hugging me."

Instead of the traditional newlyweds entrance, she was joined by her groomsmen and bridesmaids who sang and danced along to Lizzo's Good as Hell on their way to the top table.

Kayley said: "It was all based on instinct, and we just went with it. I still wanted photos because all of the groomsmen and bridesmaids looked absolutely incredible and I wanted them to have their pictures as they normally would.

"The photographer also took a photo of me in my dress in the garden. Then we did family photos and bridesmaid photos instead of the bride and groom.

"You can probably see a few tear streaks down my face, but I love the photos. I was never going to make a speech, but I wanted to thank everyone for staying because they didn't have to.

Kayley's first dance was Love You To The Moon and Back by Dolly Parton, which she shared with her dad.

She said: "I'd always dreamed of dancing with my dad at my wedding. He's 71 and I always had a fear that he and my mum, Dee, 63, wouldn't be at my wedding, so I always wanted to have my dance with him.

"My four brothers and the groomsmen joined in because I wanted to thank them for staying. They didn't run away, and I would have totally understood if they did, but they stood by me the whole day."

The bride partied into the evening and spent the night in the bridal suite with her maid of honour and one of her best friends.
